Parents throughout California have submitted thousands of objection letters to the possible release of this very sensitive data. While the judge reiterated that these notices are not a parental opt-out, the large number of objections the court has already received did indicate a high level of concern from the public.  As a result Judge Mueller, amended the e-protocol CDE is to follow.  She stated that no data from the CALPADs database will be transferred.  For more information please go to the CDE website.

The Newark Unified School District will be naming two newly configured elementary schools as part of the approval to merge the Bunker and Milani attendance areas. The schools will open in August 2016, one a Grade TK-2 school at the current Bunker site, and the other a Grade 3-6 school at the current Milani site.

An eleven member Community Advisory Committee is charged with reviewing a list of suggested school names and then narrowing down the list to four recommendations from which the Newark Unified School District

Board of Education will choose two. Those wishing to be members of the committee are invited to access an application form by March 11, 2016.  A paper version of the application is available at the district office at 5715 Musick Avenue in Newark.  We invite your participation in this endeavor.  Submit your completed application and biographical sketch to Liz Warren, Executive Assistant or email to lwarren@newarkunified.org.

Applicants will be asked to provide their contact information and a one paragraph biographical sketch to assist the School Board in ensuring diversity in membership and a diversity of viewpoints among committee members. The School Board will appoint the members to the committee at its March 15, 2016 regular School Board meeting. Members must be available for scheduled meetings on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 6:00 p.m., with a potential meeting on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. if needed.

Traffic Safety - seguridad vial

As we begin the school year, Newark Police Department will begin citing drivers whenever necessary to encourage compliance of traffic laws and to reinforce that safety of our children is a priority.

There have been multiple incidents endangering children even a child being struck and several near misses.  Please remember that children’s cognitive abilities are still developing and they lack training and experience in traffic safety.

Keys to avoid receiving a citation:

  • Drive Slow
  • Do not make illegal U-turns
  • Have car seats for children
  • Have seat belts on all passengers
  • Make a “full-stop” at stop signs

Putting our children at risk is not worth the few minutes you may save by rushing and breaking these suggestions.  Newark Unified School District and the Newark Police Department want to keep everyone safe.

Safety reminders for children walking to school:

  • Walk, don’t run across the street
  • Look left, look right and left again
  • Obey Walk/Wait signals
  • Do not cross at mid-block locations
  • Use crosswalks

Safety reminders for children biking to school:

  • Always wear a properly fastened and fitted helmet
  • Obey all traffic laws
  • Ride in the same direction as motor vehicles
  • Check traffic when changing lanes, crossing streets or turning
  • Use hand signals

Attention Parents!

An electronic version of our School Accountability Report Card (SARC) is available on Newark Unified School District's website hereIn addition, a paper copy is available in our school office for your review.

Joven Noble!

Bridgepoint is very lucky to receive continued student support for yound men and women through the Joven Noble workshops.

Currently, Bridgepoint is holding two student groups, one for boys on Tuesdays during 5th period and one for girls on Wednesdays during 5th period.

Joven Noble (Noble youth) is a character development program - in essence a rite of passage. It is a youth development, support, and leadership enhancement program. Joven Noble (Noble Youth) is a ten-session curriculum that helps develop character of young men/women while targeting the reduction and prevention of unwanted pregnancies, substance abuse, community violence and to increase the ability of youth to act in a responsible and respectful way in reference to their relationships. By taking the youth through the process of PALABRA (Credible WORD) the importance of integrity and how you are defined.

Bridgepoint is extremely grateful for the support of Ms. Peinado to make these important student groups happen in our school.
